  • Take a piece of paper, fold it in half three time until you have 8 squares when folded back out. Now set a timer for 30 seconds, then ask inside yourself “Whose here?” and the first part that shows up, draw it and how it feels. Then when the 30 seconds are up, move to the next square and do the same thing again for 30 seconds with the next part that pops up. Repeat for all the squares. Notice how you feel. Take extra time to do a Self-to-Part journaling if any parts are needing more time to be heard.

    >This exercise is particularly helpful when you are feeling overwhelmed with lots of parts yelling for your attention. You can acknowledge and listen to each on this way.<

While we cover a lot of ground in Quieting the Storm Within, there are nuances and depths not possible to be captured in an introductory book of this kind. I encourage you to read, join groups, and work with a trained IFS practitioner to support you on your journey.

This book by IFS founder, Dick Schwartz, PhD, is a great next step to learn more.
